Believed to be beneficial for promoting calmness, helping with sleep as well as reduce stress. Amethyst is used a lot in mediation as it is connected to the crown and the third eye chakras, encouraging spiritual awareness.
Amethyst is commonly found in volcanic rock and can take millions of years and a little radiation to crystallise into its beauty. Amethyst is a type of quartz composed of silicon and and oxygen, its starts when hydrothermal activity (magma heating beneath the surface) seeps a gas into pockets of the earth and starts to crystallise. The purple comes from the natural radiation affecting iron impurities which alters the way it inters with light.
