Amethyst is used a lot in meditation because of it’s connection with the third eye and crown chakras, it’s believed to bring calmness and spiritual awareness.
Amethyst is commonly found in volcanic rock and can take millions of years and a little radiation to crystallise into its beauty. Amethyst is a type of quartz composed of silicon and and oxygen, its starts when hydrothermal activity (magma heating beneath the surface) seeps a gas into pockets of the earth and starts to crystallise. The purple comes from the natural radiation affecting iron impurities which alters the way it inters with light.
